Makgomo Chrome Operations

The chrome processing plant operates under a policy that seeks to offer employment to local people and currently offers direct employment to over 20 people from local communities and another 15 who are employed indirectly.

As much as possible, the chrome plant also secures goods and services from local suppliers to support local economic development. Preference is given to Tier 1 companies for procurement of goods and services, such as the materials handling equipment and logistics services.

The chrome project generates revenue by extracting, marketing, and selling the chrome which is produced as a by-product from the Marula Mine tailings which are given to Makgomo.

Implats holds the mining rights to all the platinum group metals (PGMs) and the chrome found within the Marula mining area, which is made up of four farms: Winnaarshoek, Forest Hill, Clapham & Driekop (commonly known as the Four Farms).
